The EU-US Privacy Shield

The EU-US Privacy Shield framework means US companies now face a stronger commitment to protect Europeans’ personal data.

Following the European Court of Justice ruling that the previous Safe Harbour initiative is invalid, Privacy Shield requires the US to monitor and robustly enforce the new framework as well as cooperate more with EU data protection authorities. It also includes clear limitations regarding access to consumer data by the US Government.

American companies must now self-certify annually and display their privacy policy clearly on their website. European citizens will be able to get greater transparency about the transfer of their personal data to the US. We recently spoke to our resident Cloud Security Guru, Christopher Steffen to find out what the new ruling means for businesses and their data compliance.
