Machina Research, the world’s leading analyst for the Internet of Things, recently published a strategy report calling for further convergence between mobile enterprise application platforms and enterprise IoT platforms.
The ‘It’s time for a single enterprise mobile & IoT platform‘ report suggests that the concepts of mobility enterprise IoT have begun to merge. However, given the vast array of choice in platforms and solutions now available from many of the big technology players, coupled with the daunting task of trying to connect legacy hardware and infrastructure, it’s no surprise that many in the C-Suite are scratching their heads and wondering where to begin.
Commenting on the findings of the report, author Emil Berthelsen, Principal Analyst, Machina Research said: “The mobile device is now used as a display, a controller, a sensor, and in some cases, as a gateway for many of the emerging IoT applications. Functionally, there is an increasing overlap between Enterprise IoT solutions and mobile enterprise application platforms, albeit with a much broader range of devices and protocols in use within Enterprise IoT resulting in greater complexity for device management and connectivity.”
We recently spoke to Emil about the findings and asked him what the next few years have in store in the much-hyped Enterprise IoT space.
