African Nations Unite to Create a Digital Single Market

The beginning of a new era

In late January 2014, heads of state from across the African Union gathered in Addis Ababa to endorse the Smart Africa Manifesto – a clear commitment to provide leadership in accelerating socio-economic development via digital transformation across the continent. The manifesto aims to usher Africa into a knowledge economy through affordable access to Broadband and usage of Information and Communications Technologies.

One component of this is their Cloud and Data Centers for Africa initiative and recently announced partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which aims to enable locally-founded cloud service providers and resellers to develop, sell and deliver targeted, country-specific cloud services in African nations.
